St. Francis de Sales Catholic Parish of Lumberton, NC

Lector Ministry
Chair: April Pittman

Are you being called to help others hear the Word of God? If so, consider becoming a Minister of the Sacred Word. This beautiful ministry doesn’t just “read” the Word of God, those called to this ministry proclaim the Word so that others will be able to hear the message of God’s love to us either through Scripture or Prayers of the Faithful.

Readers at St. Francis de Sales’ Parish strive to make the liturgy of the Word as meaningful as possible for the worshipping assembly by speaking God’s Word as storyteller, telling how God has acted and is acting in our lives. Readers strive to impart God’s work in a clear and compelling manner so that the community will be inspired by our efforts to ponder and mediate on God’s words in their daily lives.

The importance of the reader ministry should not be underestimated in producing a vibrant and meaningful liturgy. The ministry’s portion of the Liturgy of the Word enhances the meaning of the Gospel. Moreover, our Christian tradition includes the tradition of Israel as God’s chosen people and the foundation of the early Church.
